Dive into technology

Our Technology Development Programme (TDP) offers two intakes, June and September 2026. You’ll begin with an induction and our TDP Academy, where you’ll receive upfront training in core IT and business skills, with a focus on the technical capabilities needed to thrive in your role.

During your 18-month journey, you’ll join a high-performing team that supports Virgin Money’s technology and data platforms. Along the way, you'll follow a personalised learning pathway that builds core business skills alongside role-specific training to support your ongoing development.

Infrastructure Engineer

Start date: June or September 2026
Locations: Glasgow or Newcastle (Gosforth) 

Our IT infrastructure underpins the services our colleagues and customers rely on every day – it’s the backbone of our digital operations. Our teams collaborate across the bank and transformation programmes, so together we can deliver Virgin Money’s strategic goals.

In this role, you will: 

  • Deliver new IT infrastructure and maintain existing platforms such as Mainframe and our Data Centres.
  • Collaborate with Assurance and Cyber teams to ensure new and changing infrastructure is delivered safely and securely.
  • Provide robust and efficient platforms to colleagues across technology.
  • Create secure, resilient and scalable Microsoft Azure Cloud platforms using engineering best practice.
  • Provide technology, equipment and support for colleagues to best fulfill their roles.

Software Engineer

Start date: June or September 2026
Locations: Glasgow or Newcastle (Gosforth)

Engineering is where we bring ideas to life, designing and building tools that empower our colleagues and support the delivery of high-quality solutions across Virgin Money. Our engineers work in both agile and waterfall environments, contributing throughout the software development lifecycle with a strong focus on coding, delivery, and continuous improvement.

In engineering you could be working with: 

  • Cloud platforms: AWS, Google Cloud, Azure.
  • Front-end technologies: React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Typescript.
  • Back-end technologies: Node.js, C#, .NET Core, Java, Python.
  • APIs for seamless system integration.
  • Automation testing Tools: Pega, ARIS, Appium, Selenium, Serenity BDD.
  • Specialist platforms: SAP, Nice Actimize, MSO.
  • CI/CD pipelines to accelerate delivery.
  • Central services: HR, Risk, Audit, Finance.
  • Building dashboards and configuring monitoring solutions to ensure resilient infrastructure.
  • Proof-of-concepts to simplify journeys and enhance user experience.
  • AI Technologies like Github Copilot.

Cyber Security Specialist 

Start date: June or September 2026
Locations: Glasgow or Newcastle (Gosforth)

Our Cyber teams play a vital role in ensuring Virgin Money puts our customers first. We take our responsibility to protect our customers’ money and data seriously. The team is made up of several specialised areas, each contributing to service availability and maintaining our trusted reputation.

In this role, you will: 

  • Lead the way in protecting us against current and emerging threats, keeping our systems, services, customers, and colleagues safe.
  • Support critical security activities including risk assessments, programme consultancy, threat modelling, and in-depth threat intelligence research and analysis.
  • Coordinate penetration testing and apply hands-on technical expertise to help build resilience against evolving cyber threats.
  • Embed security into engineering and shape future-ready strategies with our defence-in-depth framework which combines security awareness, vulnerability management, rigorous testing and a Zero Trust approach.
  • Deliver clear, actionable analysis and insights to improve our ability to prevent and respond to network defence, fraud, supplier and inside threats, keeping us both secure and resilient.

Online testing 

The next stage of the assessment process involves completing two online psychometric tests - one behavioural and one aptitude-based. Remember to check your emails once you've submitted your application.  

Assessment Centre 

The final stage of the assessment process is the assessment centre, where you'll take part in a group exercise and an interview.

Offer 

If you’re successful, our team will be in touch with a verbal offer followed by a written conditional offer. We’ll then confirm what additional information we need to begin your onboarding journey.
