Advance through the application process

At Virgin Money, we've got a bunch of different roles up for grabs, so we've crafted various ways of getting to know you better and to see what skills and qualities you could bring to the table. It's also a chance to for us to hear what you're really looking for in a career with us. Depending on the area you're interested in, things might look a little different although there are some things that will remain the same so we'd like to share these with you to help you prepare.

1. Application

If you come across a job that excites you – hit apply! You'll be taken to our application page where you can either sign in if you've got an account or register if you're new. We'll need your CV and ask few questions to get to know you.

2. Application Review

Once we've got your application, it will go straight to the hiring manager for review. We'll aim to get back to you as soon as possible either way. Just a heads up, if you are successful at this stage, we are not always able to give you feedback.

3. Interview

You'll be invited to either a face to face or virtual interview and depending on the role may be invited to take part in an assessment. To help you prepare, we will share our 'Be The Best You guide' in advance which is full of helpful tips.

4. Feedback

We're dedicated to offering meaningful feedback after your interview or assessment experience with is. If you would like some feedback, please let us know and we’d be happy to provide this.

5. Offer

When we're ready to make things official, we'll give you a call so we can talk through the offer with you. We'll follow this up by a written offer. A new job is one big exciting deal so rest assured we're always on hand to answer any questions you may have.

6. Onboarding & Starting

We'll send you your employment contract to read through to accept once you are ready via our online portal. You’ll be invited to your welcome session and we’ll also give you access to our Welcome Hub with loads of content to help immerse yourself.

Where are you based?

Our head offices are based in Glasgow and Newcastle Upon Tyne. We do have hubs in various other hubs and stores throughout UK. A Life More Virgin offers the flexibility of hybrid working and some roles may be fully remote.

Do you accept speculative CV’s?

Due to the volume of applications we receive, we don’t, so please apply directly. That way your application will be viewed by the hiring manager against the specific role you’ve applied for.

Can I apply for more than one role?

Yes, of course. Carefully consider the requirements of each role you are applying for and how your skills, experiences are aligned. Make sure you tailor each application, so it is relevant to the role.

What do you look for when you review my application?

We look to see if you meet the criteria for the role and review your CV, skills and experience. We love to see your personality shine through your application too. Don’t worry if you don’t meet all the requirements of the role, we also look for potential and transferable skills so highlight these in your application.

Do you have any top tips for preparing my CV?

The best advice we can give you about your CV is to make sure that it is tailored to the role you’re applying for. This is so we can draw out your key skills and experiences that are transferable to the role. Your CV is personal although to give it structure, you should include.

  • Contact details – Make sure they are up to date so we can reach you.
  • Personal profile – Stand out from the crowd. Showcase in a short paragraph what you’re offering and can bring to the role
  • Work Experience – List the most recent first and highlight the company, job title and how long you worked there for. Summarize the key responsibilities within your role. If you have little or no work experience, you can use this space to highlight any experiences from your studies, voluntary work or life experiences along with the qualities you have gained.
  • Education – Highlight your educational experience and achievements along with the dates, type of qualification and the graded you achieved.
  • Key Achievements – Had any wow moments? We’d love to hear about them. Share the impact you have made that would be relevant to the role.

Do you have any top tips for my application form?

We love learning more about you and our application form is designed to do just that. Make sure your answers are Red Hot and relevant to the role by aligning your strengths and experiences. Draw on your potential and show that you have understood the requirements of the role.

Will my interview be virtual or face to face?

This will depend on the role and if you are based near one of our hubs. We’d love to meet you in person but most of our interviews are held virtually via MS Teams. If you can’t get online or require any adjustments, let us know – careers@virginmoney.com

Do you have any top tips when it comes to my interview?

Know your stuff and take your time to review your CV and the job advert so you can prepare some examples that will show us how brilliant you are. It is likely we’ll ask you ask you questions that are aligned to at least 3 of our values so get familiar with these. We’ll also ask you some technical questions specific to the role. Take your time before you answer and gather your thoughts, try to relax - we want you to do well. Remember to use “I” when talking about what you’ve done and not “we.” Demonstrate your insatiable curiosity and ask us questions and most importantly… be yourself!

What will happen after my interview(s)?

Once a decision has been made you will be notified of the outcome. If you’ve not been successful and would like some feedback, please let us know and we’d be happy to provide this. If your interview has been successful and a verbal job offer has been made and accepted, we’ll confirm the offer in writing and kick start the vetting process. We will help make sure your onboarding journey is smooth and get you set up ahead of your first day.
