Business Unit: Chief Operating Office
Salary:  National Living Wage - £12.91 per hour (equates to £23,500 per annum pro rata)
Location: Hybrid – you’ll live local to Glasgow or Newcastle as you’ll attend a hub at least once per week
Contract Type:  Fixed Term (9-week placement) Monday – Friday between the hours of 0900-1700.
Internship Dates: The programme will run between 7 July – 12 September 2025 and exact dates confirmed at interviews.

As part of your internship, you’ll be placed in one of our teams within Data, Technology Products and Channels or Enterprise Systems, so we’re looking for you to have a specialism in one of the following areas:

Chief Data Office:

  • If joining our reporting and insight team you’ll be gathering requirements for and building a Power Bi dashboard and producing data analysis and scorecards. It's great if you’re familiar with some of the following - Agile methodologies, JIRA, SharePoint, Confluence, Oracle, Power Bi and SQL
  • Within our data platforms team you’ll be involved in the full lifecycle on engineering from concept, through design and build to implementation.  Some knowledge of the following is great – Azure, Data Factory, Synapse, Python, Databricks and DevOps.
  • In our advanced analytics project team, you’ll gain experience as we refine a data science model. You’ll need a strong foundation in applied mathematics and application of Python, be familiar with machine learning algorithms and be able to analyse and visualise data effectively.
  • Within our data governance team, you’ll support the assessment, diagnosis and resolution of data issues. This spans data quality, privacy and analytics requirements. Problem solving and analytical skills are essential as well as working knowledge of databases and MS tools such as Excel, PowerBI and SharePoint. If you’re studying tech, science or business, this may be for you.

Chief Technology Office:

  • You’ll be developing and maintaining our Application Portfolio Management view. Working with our Enterprise Architects, you’ll learn how our processes work and you’ll contribute to creating strategy documents relating to core platforms, data, digital platforms, cloud, and AI.

Products and Channels:

  • In the Unsecured Lending team, you'll assist multiple agile squads, as we develop our product offering via the Credit Card mobile app and Loans systems. You'll attend our agile ceremonies, tribe sync and daily stand-ups.  
  • You'll learn about end-to-end delivery of projects and the governance involved in reporting. Agile methodologies would come in handy here.
  • Within Engineering Frameworks & Digital Apps area, you'll learn about mobile development tooling & standards, along with the processes we follow to ensure our high-quality deliveries. 
  • In Service Design, you'll see how we map customer journeys enabling us to focus on areas to improve the customer experience. Working with designers, you'll get insight into how these journey changes flow through to deliver impactful changes for our customers. Knowledge of Java, Python or Flutter would be great.
  • Working alongside Developers and Technical Leads, you'll support change and improvements to our personal mobile and web internet banking applications.

Enterprise Systems:

  • You’ll be working on Fraud prevention projects, looking to optimise existing processes, make better use of existing/new data to reduce fraud risks, be part of a team implementing new fraud detection tools.
  • Contribute to delivery of business and technical changes and collaborate with team members, planning activities, estimating tasks, and addressing project risks and issues.
  • Design and develop business processes and procedures for various audiences, such as Business and IT.

We need you to:

  • Have relevant knowledge and / or experience in some of the criteria above
  • Be entering the final year of a degree ideally in an IT or Data related subject in September 2025
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a curious mindset and head for data.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written with the ability to say it straight
  • Have a passion for technology and be curious to problem solve and be excited about immersing yourself in a fast moving and challenging environment.
  • Have experience of building positive working relationships and be a strong collaborator.

It's a bonus if you have but not essential:

  • An understanding of Banking & Finance organisations.
