“I feel lucky doing the job that I do. I get to see our new Lounges and offices come to life.
From the initial property search right through to completion of the build and fit out, I’m responsible for making sure the build is delivered on time to the right quality and on budget. And I work with a great team of people, like our external architects, designers and builders and our internal teams from IT, Change, Marketing, Property and Facilities.
I like to think I have a good eye for design, and the 20 or 30 other people involved in the project think they do too. So that can make for some interesting discussions. But we all want the same thing - to deliver a brilliant property for our colleagues and customers.
The job takes me all over the country, at all times of the day, and no two weeks are the same. What I enjoy most is working as part of a team to overcome challenges - and there are plenty of those. But we learn from each job and make each new property better than the last one. In Haymarket we built an aeroplane in the basement and in Sheffield we'll be building a full sized ten pin bowling alley!
Finishing the job is always a strange mix of emotions. You put so much time, care and effort into the delivery, and then you hand over your brand new building to a new team of people to love and look after it. But there’s no time to dwell, because then I’m off to the next build!”
